1. Find the Right UNDERS: One of my best Over/Under situation is finding a matchup that has the making of a high scoring game and it’s being highlighted by the media as a shootout and that the defense will be torched. Normally under these circumstances, the opposite arises and because the betting public loves high scoring offenses, they will drive the total higher.
2. Money Management: If there’s one line I’ve used year after year it’s how to not blow your bankroll the first week of the football season. I’ve seen this so many times that I try to really educate novice bettors not to fall in this death trap of betting. Here’s the thing. Everybody is jacked about the upcoming NFL or College Football season; you boost your account with $200 or whatever amount you use as a starting bankroll. Come Monday night football, you’ve lost ¾ of your bets on Saturday and Sunday, that you bet everything on the Monday night game and then you’re done betting for the season. Monday night football is also known as “Chaser Monday”, as people chase their lost from the weekend. One of the best words of advice somebody gave me once was this; “look Ron, everybody wants to get rich now, nobody wants to wait to get rich!” Exactly, make sure you bet only a percentage of your bankroll, some say bet 5% of your bankroll, but I would recommend 10%. This way, if you deposit $200 into your account, then wager $20 a game, this way if you lose, you still have a manageable amount of money to continue for weeks to come. The goal of wagering of sports is to give you some interest and incentive on watching the game, so why not spread that enthusiasm into the holiday season. Plus, by not dipping into the old family petty cash fund, will keep your wife off your back. Hint, hint Take it from us veteran married guys.
3. Who let the “home dogs” out: Here’s the best thing about betting on underdogs, home or away, they don’t need to win the game, just cover the spread! The pressure is all over the favorites, as they must win the game straight up and cover the spread, so they have a dual role. In fact, going back to the NFL HOME UNDERDOGS the last 3 years, home underdogs are 58-46-3 ATS (56%) which is very good. In college sports, there’s tons of value betting on the home underdog in college football or basketball, as the student body really supports the home team on campus and it really helps the home team to pick up their game.
