Here are 4 teams I’m going to recommend you wager 1 unit. Keep in mind, the season has not started, you have no regular season stats to base your decision on, but you do have the rosters and from my experience, good goaltending and a solid defense corps can take you a long way into the playoffs and no matter what, you can hedge your bets once your team hits the 3rd or 4th round of the playoffs.

• Calgary Flames +1467: The Flames are stacked at the defense position; you have Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf, Robyn Regehr and Mikka Kiprusoff in nets, that is one heck of a foundation for your defense, maybe the best trio in the league. Plus, with a Sutter coaching this team, they will be very tough to play against.
• Montreal +2810: I have a gut feeling Carey Price did some serious soul searching this summer and knowing this is the Olympic year and his name is not attached to the goaltending position, might want to turn some heads and maybe get the hockey worlds attention. Plus, great speed, but the question mark is the defense, might be a bit slow with all that size now.
• Carolina +4261: This falls into my never bet against a goalie who’s won a Stanley Cup theory. Cam Ward in my view is a top 5 goaltender in the world and the Canes are one or two forwards from making another run. However, +4261 with Cam Wards makes us money should they make the playoffs, then we start hedging.
• Edmonton +7124: Again, now that the Oilers have an experience and solid goalie like Khabibulin to hold the fort on the back end, you never know what can happen. Edmonton has a good core of young guys with speed and they have enough sand paper to get through those physical road games in a tough Northwest division. Khabibulin is the only reason I’m making this recommendation.
