oying their off season, but it’s never the off season for the Sportsbooks, as they’ve released their Futures betting odds on who will win the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Right now, the Red Wings are currently the odds on favorite to win the Stanley Cup at 5 to 1 odds, but they will have to do it without Marian Hossa and Jiri Hudler. Hossa is off to Chicago, while Hudler signed on with the KHL in Russia, but the Red Wings have filed a grievance with the players association, so stay tuned, as he might have to come back and suit up with the Red Wings.
The defending Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins are +600 to repeat and win the Cup, whereas if you wagered $100 on the Penguins and they win the cup, you would net a $400 profit. Basically, they are 6-1 odds to win the Cup again.
Teams who made a huge splash in the Free Agent signings on July 1st have improved their teams and the Sportsbooks have given them a bit of respect. The Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke was very busy in July, signing some big deals with Francois Beauchemin, Mike Komisarek, Colton Orr and a new goalie in Jonas Gustavsson. The Leafs will be a tougher team to play against this season, but the offshore sportsbook don’t see much value in their new free agent pick ups, as they are +6000 to win the Stanley Cup in the 2009 and 2010 season. The Montreal Canadiens picked up Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta, Hall Gill and a few other players and the Sportsbooks have made them a +3300 underdog to win the Stanley Cup Championship.
One of the best ways to make money at Sports betting is to find a longshot who you believe will make the playoffs and then you start betting against them once the playoff starts. Last year I recommended the Pittsburgh Penguins at +1600 all documented at Hockeypicks.com and we enjoyed a nice payout!
