The Super Bowl is known in betting circles as the “Biggest Sports Betting Event” in the world, but you might have an argument from many pundits about this statement, as the World Cup and March Madness can hold their own when it comes to betting on games.

According to Dave Tuley’s from “View from Vegas”, the handle on this year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas was $87 million, but only reaped a profit of less than 1% and basically acted like a borrowing agency to take from Paul to pay Peter. However, things were different in 2010 between the Saints and Colts; Vegas brought in $82 million, but made a profit of $6.8 million.
March Madness is on our doorstep and this tournament has taken a life of its own the last 15 years when it comes to betting on sports. I’ve written many articles the last 15 years and have seen many of my “Darwinian prediction” come to realization and let me tell you; March Madness is a different cat! The Super Bowl has become a betting spectacle, their list of betting propositions has lost it’s focus and when you start putting bets on things like will the national anthem last over or under one minute and fifty seconds? Now you’re creating degenerate gamblers and giving people in the addiction field ammunition to stop the evolution of online gaming. The only reason why you see so many betting propositions on the Super Bowl, some marketing manager is trying to make a name for their establishment and taking advantage of a situation like Super Bowl Props can benefit their position in the market place.
In my view, March Madness has the best format for betting with their Bracket Contest, because anybody can pick which team will advance to the next round and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to handicap the tournament!
Because it caters to the non bettor who is not used to betting with the point spread and the over/under, all is required is to predict who will win and advance to the next round.
Unlike the Super Bowl, it doesn’t confuse or saturate the betting card with events that have nothing to do with the game itself. In fact, it’s fun to watch high profile people in the public eye like President Obama who has gotten involved with his March Madness picks, as the White House has released his March Madness selections the last 2 years.
However, it’s a great opportunity for bettors to make a profit, as the first round of the tournament always produce great value on live underdogs and the first round is where real bettors make their money. It’s rare to see a 50-1 longshot make a run right to the end, because parity has caught up to College sports. Professional sports have parity through salary caps, whereas college sports parity is controlled by scholarships. But that’s an argument for another day.
I’ve been involved in the online sports betting business since 1996 and I’ve seen many things in my 15 year career in this industry, but the sportsbooks I recommend are the ones I have a long and trusted relationship. If you’re looking to place a bet on the March madness games or play in some March Madness bracket pools, I would recommend you wager with Bookmaker Sportsbook or SBG Global Sportsbook.
I’ve known both of the managers of these companies for over 10 years and I consider them my friends and I have no problem sleeping at night when I recommend my clients to these two fine establishments.
Here are the current odds from SBG Global on who will win the 2011 March Madness tournament.
