Ron Raymond’s Monday Morning QB Review
Honesty is the best policy in life and I make no bones about having a bad weekend, I went 1-4 with my NFL picks this weekend with Buffalo +11 pending this evening and my only winning pick was my free play on Baltimore -13 vs. KC. In fact, I needed a last minute touchdown for the cover. Nevertheless, the sun rose again in the East and my morning newspaper is telling me that today is another day! Great stuff!
OK, what did we learn over the weekend, it’s always good to review your wins and loses and did you see something that you should store in your subconscious for another week, because like the old saying goes; “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.”
Tennessee vs. Pittsburgh: Tennessee needs to find a way to extend their vertical game, because you can’t expect to win football games by running the ball 60% of the time and throwing 2 passes over 20 yards twice during a game. Steelers still find a way to win games they should lose and they will need to address their offensive line on pass protection.
Miami vs. Atlanta: Can’t win football games if you can’t move the ball on offense.
Philadelphia vs. Carolina: Delhomme has now thrown 9 interceptions in his last 2 NFL meaningful games. In my view, Delhomme’s career will be re-evaluated after week 5 and if the Panthers are a 20% or less ball club, time to look at Back ups.
Denver vs. Cincinnati: In my view, Denver lost that football game. If you need a lucky play to win a game, you lost the game. Plus, both offenses need to make better half time adjustments, so I blame the offensive coordinators for not making the proper adjustments at half time.
Minnesota vs. Cleveland: The Browns need to convert their 3rd down plays, you can’t go 3-12 on 3rd down and expect to win football games.
NY Jets vs. Houston: Gary Kubiak had all off season to turn this team around and show some improvement in the season opener. If I’m the owner of the Houston Texans, Kubiak is fired on the spot this morning and I bring in Mike Shannahan or try to get Bill Cowher to lead your football team. You’re a -4 point home favorite, you have a rookie QB to play against and you lay an egg. Kubiak, you’re fired!
Jacksonville vs. Indy: Tough to beat Peyton Manning at home and to keep the score close, you have to give the Jags credit.
Detroit vs. New Orleans: I had Detroit as one of my top plays and Stafford looked really good, but that defense! Jeepers’ creepers, stop something! As for the Saints, you let the Detroit Lions score 27 points on you in your own building. That’s a red flag in my book.
Dallas vs. Tampa Bay: If I’m an offensive coordinator playing against the Bucs, I’m throwing deep the entire game, these guys on the corners can’t cover pro receivers and Barber is close to retirement.
San Francisco vs. Arizona: Mike Singletary is starting to turn this organization around and to walk into the Arizona Cardinals home and beat them up, will give the Niners some confidence. Keep in mind, the Cards came one series away from winning the Super Bowl, so this is a huge win for San Francisco.
Washington vs. NY Giants: Redskins lost their cool yesterday, you can’t be fighting on the field, it shows your football team is not disciplined. Redskins hung tight in this game, but couldn’t put 60 minutes together.
St.Louis vs. Seattle: St.Louis needs to protect the QB better, can’t allow 3 sacks in any game and find ways to convert 3rd downs.
Chicago vs. Green Bay: Cutler looked out of sync; he was forcing throws into areas where there were 3 Packers and he needs to learn how to use his hot receivers, ie; RB's in the flats. Can’t be forcing throws Jay!
Hang with winners in life and you will be a winner and remember, less is more!
