West Contenders Look to Assert Dominance in Interconference Action
By Ron Raymond on Jan 19, 2011 | In Recommended Sportsbooks, Offshore Sportsbooks
Disparity between the NBA’s Eastern and Western Conferences is no secret. This week we’ll see a handful of games that test the phenomenon while simultaneously serving as perfect NBA betting opportunities for players looking to capitalize on some interconference action.
For a point of reference, the seventh best team in the East - currently the Indiana Pacers - would sit 12th in the Western Conference.
Although the East isn’t without its fair share of contenders, the sheer depth of the Western Conference is what makes it the more renowned of the two conferences.
Though emerging as conference champions in either will prove to be a monumental task, the simple daily grind of life in the West is a chore in itself.
This Thursday, the Chicago Bulls, one of the aforementioned Eastern Conference contenders, will host the Dallas Mavericks. Although they’ve slid down the standings recently in the absence of star Dirk Nowitzki, the All-Star returned to the Dallas lineup this past weekend and hopes to be at full health in time for their next big challenge.
Will Derrick Rose and the Bulls pull off a big win, tightening their grip on the Central Division and continuing to gain ground on the Miami Heat? Bet on the NBA with Bodog.
On Friday the Atlanta Hawks will host the New Orleans Hornets as each struggles to position themselves for home court in the first round of their respective playoffs. The Hawks have posted a better regular season record thus far, but it’s hard to consider them favorites against a Hornets club that has spent time at the top of the NBA standings this year.
Not long after that, the Utah Jazz will host the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Celtics. Though the Celtics have come out strong this season, proving that Miami to the NBA Finals is no guarantee, the Jazz are one of a select few teams to have taken down both the Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers so far this season.
If easy victories are harder to come by in the West than in the East, the Mavs, Hornets and Jazz should make short work of their Eastern Conference opponents this week, right? That’s where you come in.

AFC and NFC Conference Championship Odds Available at Bodog
Four teams remain in the NFL after last weekend’s divisional playoff round, and they’re not who you would have expected.
After watching the Seattle Seahawks advance past their wild card matchup with the New Orleans Saints, and then seeing both No. 1 seeds ousted in the weekend that just passed, it’s safe to say that the 2011 NFL playoffs have been anything but predictable.
Although those Cinderella Seahawks soon met their end against the Chicago Bears, their historic upset set the tone for a wild postseason run that brings us to the AFC and NFC Conference Championship games.
Those Bears, led by quarterback Jay Cutler will look to put the finishing touches on a solid season this Sunday when they take on the Green Bay Packers at 3:00 PM EST.
It will be a tight game for the NFC North representatives, but the Packers have been given an early -3 spread to take the win. After downing the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild card weekend and then turning away the first-place Atlanta Falcons, Aaron Rodgers and co. are looking as dangerous as ever.
The Bears, who finished first in the division on the year, however, have only played the 7-9 Seahawks since the postseason started over two weeks ago.

In the AFC, fans will notice the glaring absence of the New England Patriots as the New York Jets, the AFC East team that slayed them in the divisional playoff round, take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After their Week 13 shellacking at the hands of the Pats, nobody quite expected the Jets to make noise in the playoffs, so it comes as no surprise that the Steelers have been deemed the -3 favorite. The over/under for the match sits at 38.5.
Will the Jets have enough left in the tank after taking out the consensus Super Bowl favorite last Sunday?
