Ron Raymond’s NHL Hockey Predictions March 5, 2010

Coming off a 6-3 night and there’s some interesting matchups this evening. Here are my picks for Friday night.

Buffalo PK -130 vs. Philadelphia: The Flyers have a look a head spot here with Toronto on deck Sunday and they are 0-3 on the road before Toronto games. When ANY NHL Team Played as Home team as a Favorite - Vs Eastern conference opponent - During the month of March - playing on Friday - 3 games in 4 nights; the Home Fave is 11-4-1 SU.

Nashville PK +170 vs. Detroit: The Red Wings are healthy, but I’m still not convinced they are worthy of being a -200 favorite at home with a losing record.

Chicago PK -150 vs. Vancouver: At first glance the Canucks are a great value play here at +130, but the Hawks are 17-3 SU at home after a non-division game and they are 7-1 vs. Northwest division teams this season. When CHICAGO Played as home team as a Favorite - During Last 2 Years - Won Last Game by 3 Goals; Hawks are 7-3 SU.

Minnesota PK -180 vs. Edmonton: Always tough to back the Oilers in any situation this season, especially when Backstrom is 14-1 SU vs. the Oilers lifetime. When EDMONTON played as Underdog- Vs NORTHWEST Division; Oilers are 2-13 SU L15 in this role.

New Jersey PK -110 vs. Calgary: The Flames seem to have internal issues and to get shutout by the Wild on their home ice is more then just a red flag. The Flames are 0-3 SU this season on home ice when the total is 5.0.

Ron Raymond’s NHL Hockey Picks (Tuesday, March 02, 2010)

The Olympic break is finally over and the NHL is in full swing this evening with 12 NHL hockey games on tap. As much as I like to balance out my NHL underdog selections, teams are well rested and getting accurate injury reports and starting goalie information will be a task for the first few games. However, with the NHL trade deadline looming on Wednesday at 3pm EST, look for teams to start shaking things up.

Montreal PK +155 vs. Boston: Carey Price gets the nod this evening vs. the Bruins lifetime and the Habs are 6-3 on the road vs. Division teams this season. Plus, the Bruins are 1-9 SU in their last 10 home games.

Toronto PK -130 vs. Carolina: Canes didn’t want the Olympic break to happen just yet, they were 10-4 SU in their last 14 games prior to the break. However, there’s a new environment in Toronto and Giguere brings the Leafs more stability in nets. Plus, when TORONTO team played as Home team as a Favorite - After a non division game - Scored 0 goals FOR in their last game; the Leafs are 12-1 SU in this role since 1996.

Atlanta PK -140 vs. Florida: The Panthers have not done well on the road vs. division foes this season; they are 1-9 SU in this role. When ANY NHL Team played as a home team - With 5 or more days off - Allowed 5 or more goals AGAINST in their last game - Coming off a 1 game loss - Coming off 1 over; the Home Team (ATL) is 12-3-3 SU in this spot since 1996.

Chicago PK -200 vs. NY Islanders: When CHICAGO played as any home/road team - During Current Season - Won Last Game by 1 Goals or less; the Hawks are 13-6 SU in this spot this season.

Dallas PK -120 vs. LA Kings: Tough game to cap, but have to go with Turco. Coin flip in my view. When DALLAS team Played as Home team as a Favorite - After a division game - Allowed 0 goals AGAINST in their last game; The Stars are 10-2-1 SU in this situation.

Phoenix PK -135 vs. St.Louis: When PHOENIX team Played as Home team as a Favorite - Total is 5.0 - Scored 0 goals FOR in their last game; the Coyotes are 8-3-1 in this spot.

San Jose PK -150 vs. New Jersey: Brodeur will be itching to get back in nets to show he’s still a caliber goalie, but the truth is he’s getting up there in age and the reflects aren’t as sharp as they once were. When SAN JOSE team played as Home team as a Favorite - Vs Eastern conference opponent - After a non division game - Allowed 3 or more goals AGAINST in their last game; the Sharks are 30-9-1 SU in this role.

Carolina PK +105 vs. Buffalo: Hard to imagine a team who have won 4 games in their last 14 is a road favorite? Legace is 4-0 vs. the Sabres lifetime and the Sabres seems to be running on fumes these days. Tampa Bay PK -120 vs. Boston: Since Dec 23rd, the Lightning is 10-4 SU at home and Stamkos has turned his game up a notch. Looks like the Bruins have lost faith in Thomas, as Raask seems to be their go to guy right now and that’s a lot of pressure for a goalie with only 32 career starts. Dallas PK +130 vs. Calgary: The Flames got old under our eyes and their top players have lost a step. Coming off an eastern road swing and that first game at home is a killer. Especially for a team who averages 1.93 GF last 15 starts. LA Kings PK -320 vs. Edmonton: Let’s face it, the Oilers are just playing the stretch, they will win one out of every 10 or so, but this Kings team is going to finish strong prior to the break. Let’s just hope they keep it fewer than 7! San Jose PK -115 vs. Detroit: The Red Wings are coming off a poor road trip, they won 1 game and they are now 4-10 in their last 14. First game off a road trip is a tough one, but they are playing a Sharks team who got caught looking ahead last night. Nabokov is 17-3 SU in road starts this year and the Red Wings just can’t step up their game, like we are use of seeing them do in the past. In fact, they remind me of the Flames, maybe their stars are staring to losing a step, I know Lidstrom is not even close to being the player he was last year!
