College Basketball Betting Heats Up in Conference Play
By Ron Raymond on Jan 19, 2011 | In Sportsbooks
Since the new year, college basketball programs across the country have been deeply immersed in conference play. This weekend we’ll some of the most heated pairings available as a number of Top 25 teams test themselves against similarly renowned clubs.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are currently ranked No. 2 in the country having strung together an 18-0 record in overall play and a 5-0 mark specifically in the Big Ten. Although their conference record does include a victory over the Minnesota Gophers, the brunt of their competition starts this weekend and lasts for over a month.
This Saturday the Buckeyes will take on No. 16-ranked Illinois, in their toughest conference match to date. It won’t get any easier after that, however, as a taxing seven of their next nine opponents are currently ranked in the Top 25.
The Big Ten won’t be the only conference seeing some of its best square off this Saturday though, Big 12 fans will watch as their No. 3-ranked Kansas Jayhawks host the No. 14 Texas Longhorns. Though each club is an undefeated 2-0 in conference play, Kansas has won 17 straight to start the season. In that same span the Longhorns have finished 14-3.
With all the commotion in the Big Ten and Big 12, it’s hard to imagine that even more might fall in the Big East this Saturday. That’s often what happens when two opponents ranked in the top seven meet up at this point in the season.
The Syracuse Orange haven’t lost a game yet this year with an 18-0 overall record and 5-0 mark in conference play, but the Villanova Wildcats aren’t far behind (4-0 in the Big East, 16-1 overall).
Not only will the No. 4-ranked Orange host the No. 7 Wildcats in a bid to prove they deserve to remain in the Top 5, they’ll do so just days removed from falling to, taking down or taking on the No. 5-ranked Pittsburgh Panthers. Will this game give us an idea of what to expect from the conference this spring?
