Are you following the trend and picking all the favorites for your March Madness bracket? That’s OK; you are not alone!

Many are influenced by sports radio and television host who are not professional handicappers and read what 90% of the general public is reading on general sports sites such as Yahoo, Sportsline and ESPN.

In fact, I would say 80% or higher of the betting public will look at the matchups, determine if the school is a major brand or program, check out the seeding and then make their picks based on those two factors.

Let’s face it, if you’re not a College basketball fan or follower and you see #11 seed Marquette vs. #3 seed Syracuse, good chance you are going to pick Syracuse. Am I correct? Sure, you see a big name program like Syracuse who is a #3 seed over a #11 seed; it’s a quick pick for Joe Public! However, I feel Marquette will shock a few experts.

However, if you want to win your brackets contest, you have to think differently because 80% of the public will be betting the favorites or higher seeds, and the person who normally wins the March Madness office pool is the person who stepped outside of the box and picked some underdogs!

It’s important you sit down, explore each matchup and see how each team arrived to the March Madness tournament. I’ve done my homework and found some good value on the following four teams who I predict will make the Final Four championship in Houston.

When handicapping the 2011 march madness tournament, I feel strength of schedule is an important factor to consider, because you can see a team like the Butler Bulldogs in the tournament, but only faced one ranked team (Duke) all season.
