Ron’s Preview: The Montreal Alouettes are coming off a big 39-12 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday and Anthony Calvillo threw for 4 touchdown passes and completed 23 of 37 passes for 261 yards. The Bombers are on their 4th QB this season and have not scored a TD since the August 8th game vs. the Stampeders.
The Roughriders are 2-12 SU vs. the Alouettes since 1996 and they’ve covered 8 of those 14 games with the UNDER being 10-3-1 for Miller’s teams. The Alouettes are 8-2 SU at home in their last 10 games and covered the spread 7 out of 10 times in those games.
The Roughriders will have revenge on their minds, as they took a 43-10 beating on July 18th vs. Montreal and if the Riders can Wes Cates going and running the football successfully, they could make this a close game. However, Montreal just unlocked their offense last week vs. a decent Bombers defense and check the weather report for Friday’s game, as it could play into the total.
The offshore sportsbooks have opened this line at Montreal -10 and it’s been bet up to -12 with the over/under set at 51.

Ron’s Preview: CFL Teams are starting to figure out the Montreal Alouettes and the fact they were scoring 40 or more points a game in their first 3 games, shows you teams have adjusted to their offense. The Alouettes won 25-0 over an offensive inept Toronto Argonauts football team last week and this will be a great test for the Road Favorite Alouettes this Saturday at Canad Inn Stadium vs. Michael Bishop and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Bombers made some adjustments at halftime last week vs. the Calgary Stampeders, but it was a case of too little, too late! If you recall my preview last weekend, I stated if the Bombers can get Fred Reid more involved, they will have a shot. Granted, they didn’t win the football game, but he was chosen the CFL Player of the week.
The Bombers have a nice defense and the fact they went out and got Michael Bishop might help them save their season and they should be good enough to make the playoffs. Let’s face it, it’s only Week 7 and with a bit of luck and consistency, I can see this Bombers team giving the Alouettes a run for first place, but they will need to start off with a win this Saturday. As good as Montreal looked the first three weeks, they seem to pass a bit too much and if they can get Coburn involved a bit earlier, they will run away with the East. However, for some reason, they seem to ignore the running game at times and then when they do go to Coburn, he does nothing but grinds out yards.
