The Montreal Canadiens were not only swept by the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup playoffs last season, but they took the same broom and got rid of half of their hockey team. OK, maybe not half of the team, but a good core of the main players are gone; Koivu, Kovalev, Kostopoulos signed with the Hurricanes. However, they’ve taken out the check book and made some signing that will leave Habs fans wondering if guys like Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta and Hal Gill will make a difference when the Canadiens take to the ice next season at the Molson Centre.
I’m going on record and going to say Carey Price will be up for the Vezina Award this season and if he can keep his nose close and not get into the media mess he was in last season, he could be a longshot to make the Team Canada roster at the 2010 Winter Olympic games and be a back up for Team Canada.
Keep in mind, I’m one of the only Hockey Handicappers in Canada who predicted the Pittsburgh Penguins would win the Stanley Cup last season and that turned out to be a nice prediction. All documented at Hockeypicks.com!
Here’s the thing I don’t like about the Montreal Canadiens schedule, they start their season opener vs. the Leafs at the Air Canada Center and then play their next 4 games on the road, before they play their first home game on October 15th vs. the Colorado Avalanche. Don’t like their schedule, because why should they wait 2 weeks before their first home game.
October 2009

December 2009
January 2010
February 2010

oying their off season, but it’s never the off season for the Sportsbooks, as they’ve released their Futures betting odds on who will win the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Right now, the Red Wings are currently the odds on favorite to win the Stanley Cup at 5 to 1 odds, but they will have to do it without Marian Hossa and Jiri Hudler. Hossa is off to Chicago, while Hudler signed on with the KHL in Russia, but the Red Wings have filed a grievance with the players association, so stay tuned, as he might have to come back and suit up with the Red Wings.
The defending Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins are +600 to repeat and win the Cup, whereas if you wagered $100 on the Penguins and they win the cup, you would net a $400 profit. Basically, they are 6-1 odds to win the Cup again.
Teams who made a huge splash in the Free Agent signings on July 1st have improved their teams and the Sportsbooks have given them a bit of respect. The Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke was very busy in July, signing some big deals with Francois Beauchemin, Mike Komisarek, Colton Orr and a new goalie in Jonas Gustavsson. The Leafs will be a tougher team to play against this season, but the offshore sportsbook don’t see much value in their new free agent pick ups, as they are +6000 to win the Stanley Cup in the 2009 and 2010 season. The Montreal Canadiens picked up Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta, Hall Gill and a few other players and the Sportsbooks have made them a +3300 underdog to win the Stanley Cup Championship.
One of the best ways to make money at Sports betting is to find a longshot who you believe will make the playoffs and then you start betting against them once the playoff starts. Last year I recommended the Pittsburgh Penguins at +1600 all documented at Hockeypicks.com and we enjoyed a nice payout!
