PGA Championship Prediction & Golf Odds

Tournament date: August 13 to 16, 2009

The last time the PGA Championship was played at the Hazeltine National Golf Club, Rich Beem shot -10 for the 4 rounds and shot a 68 on the Sunday to crown the 2002 PGA Championship. Let’s face it, Tiger Woods has been impressive the last few tournaments and keep in mind, this will be his third tournament in a row, so fatigue could set in on either Saturday or Sunday. Plus, it doesn’t seem his surgically repaired knee is not giving him any trouble, but he has yet to win a Major this year and that’s very un-Tiger like!

Don’t be fooled by the betting odds the Sportsbooks have released this week, as much as Tiger Woods is only +165 favorite to win the 2009 PGA Championship, I don’t see him pulling through this Sunday because of fatigue and the pressure of knowing this is his last chance for a major this year.

Therefore, let’s look at the field and see where the value lies and who can keep it straight and putt for dough.

Ron Raymond’s PGA Championship Predictions

• Gold Pick: Kenny Perry +5250 – Perry shot a 66 on Saturday last weekend and because Tiger was on fire, it took a lot of wind out of many golfers’ sails on Sunday. Kenny Perry is a great golfer and getting him at this price is excellent value.
• Silver Pick: Zach Johnson +4550 – Zach didn’t do well at the British Open last month but he’s still in the Top 5 in earned money this year, so let’s see if he can step up this weekend. If the -2 he shot last weekend at WGC Bridgestone Invitational is an indication, we might have a shot with Johnson. Let’s hope he can cash in on a few of those Par 5 and maybe get us some birdies and eagles.
• Bronze Pick: Miguel Angel Jimenez +10500 – One of my long shots this weekend, as this Spaniard is a great putter and when it comes to majors, the person who’s got a hot putter will win this tournament.
